In this post I will share a simple technique which can be used to disable theme update. This will prevent both automatic and manual updates.
Running an outdated theme is not the best practice, but there might be some use cases where not updating the theme is required. For this tip to work, you don’t need to make any changes to the core wordpress files.
Here is the Tip
Edit the style.css file of your theme and increase the version number to something like 20.0. That’s it.
Increasing the version number will also ensure that you will not get update notices. The reason is that the theme version on your install will always be ahead of the version which is available at the repository.
Now you can hand off that site to your client and don’t need to worry about the setting messing up because of a theme update
